The law enforcement agency said Thursday it is working with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration to find a way to prevent an online sex-drive link between a product it sells on Craigslist, a website that sells prescription drugs.
The FDA said it had not yet found a way to buy Viagra, a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, off Craigslist but was able to get it for $25.
The agency said it will investigate the drug's link with a Web site that sells prescription drugs, including generic drugs, such as Lipitor and Prilosec, which are used to treat high blood pressure.
“The FDA is investigating the potential for links between online sales of Viagra and the sale of prescription drugs,” said an agency spokesman. “We are investigating whether the online sale of Viagra could lead to dangerous side effects that could lead to death or serious injury.”
The agency said it is investigating the matter further.
The FDA said it is working with the agency to work out a way to prevent an online drug link between a prescription drug sold by a web site, such as Craigslist, and an online sexual-drive link that sells prescription drugs, such as Viagra and Prilosec, off of the Internet, from being found by law enforcement.
The agency said it has not yet been able to identify the website selling prescription drugs at the time of the FDA's investigation, but said it was aware of the potential for dangerous side effects.
“The FDA is currently investigating whether the online sale of prescription drugs could lead to dangerous side effects,” said the agency in a statement.
“We are aware of the potential for potential dangerous side effects, but we are not currently providing any information on these potential risks to public safety.”

The most common side effects of Viagra include flushing (a warm sensation), headache, dizziness, blurred vision, muscle pain, indigestion, and rash. If these effects persist or become bothersome, consult your doctor for advice. They may adjust your dosage or suggest an alternative treatment. Patients are advised to seek immediate medical attention if an erection lasts more than 4 hours, as priapism can cause permanent damage to the penis.

A man has been charged with buying a prescription drug in the US from a Wal-Mart store on April 20 for $35.00 and $10.00, after a Walmart pharmacist told his doctor that he would pay more.
In a lawsuit filed Monday, the Food and Drug Administration said a Wal-Mart pharmacy that sells Viagra in the US said the prescription drug was not covered by insurance and would be dispensed by a Wal-Mart pharmacy, the lawsuit claims. The claim was that the pharmacy did not have enough information to properly verify the patient’s prescription, but the FDA said it could not provide further details.
Walgreens’s website said the patient did not have a valid prescription for Viagra.
Walmart spokeswoman Mary Jo said: “The patient did not have a prescription for Viagra, and that is not what we are seeking.”
The complaint says the patient had taken the drug as an adult, had a heart attack and a stroke while taking it. She said he was unaware of the amount he was paying.
Walmart said it will not comment on the suit.
Walmart is the latest in a string of US health care products to lose their patent protection, the lawsuit claims. The generic drugmaker announced last month that it would no longer sell its popular erectile dysfunction drug, Viagra, on its website. The website said it would instead sell a generic version of the drug. On Monday, Pfizer said it would not comment on the case.
The lawsuit is part of a broader effort to protect consumers’ health from serious side effects from pharmaceuticals. Federal authorities in California and New York have seized hundreds of thousands of pounds in unlicensed, over-the-counter drugs that contain prescription drugs, including the popular erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.
